The Trip Begins

We have departed Lynnwood at 6am.

44 degrees with steady rain. Not exactly optimal driving conditions as we hit the road.

7am- As we make our way through Tacoma the rain is tapering off while we matain a 39 mpg.

8am- We are making our way through Centralia with the mpg dipping to 37.7

This mpg is only about 10% higher than the EPA however the rain is back and not helping our cause as you can see in the photo below.

9am- About 30 miles outside of Portland now and thankfully the rain has let up allowing us to improve our mpg to 38.4 Temperture is steady at 43 degrees. We have enabled cruise control which should aid our mpg.

11am- Passing through Jefferson Oregon. Mpg has risen to 38.7

Of note- We passed through historic Linn County Oregon who takes claim as the grass seed capital of the world. Quite a unique distinction.

Noon- 320 miles later and we have passed Eugene and now starting our climb up the pass. Elevation is quickly rising at 450 feet. Mpg steady at 38.7 but as we clmb how much will it fall?

2pm – 400 miles! We are passing Riddle Oregon right now with about 103 miles remaining until the California boarder. Even with the uphill climb our mpg has risen to 39.2 but only a quarter tank of gas remains. The goal of reaching Red Bluff on just 1 tank of looks to be unrealistic at this point.

4pm – 500 miles! We have just made it into California but the low fuel warning light has appeared. We are at 38.8 mpg for the trip. We encountered some snow coasting down the pass but not many miles remain in the tank…

4:45pm – 541 miles – The Trip Ends!! We made it to about 7 miles outside of Weed, California.  The low fuel warning light has been on for some time now and stopping for gas is a must! The final mpg for our trip in the 2010 HS 250h came to 39.6
